BB Bands in the Spotlight
|
The 4th and 11th West Bromwich BB and GA band was this year joined by the 1st Ketley Company and led the Royal British Legion Rememberance Parade in Wednesbury which this year was the Borough's Civic Parade and much larger then normal.
The 16th Nottingham company band took part in their Remembrance Parade through the town which was attended by all the uniformed organisations in Stapleford including ATC, GB, Scouts etc.
The London Massed Bugle Band (BB/GB) again participated in this years Lord Mayor's Show on 12th November 2005. The band marched along the 6 mile route with thousands watching along the route and hundreds of thousands watching at home on tv.
The BB received an extra mention on TV when one rather well built Officer moved the BBC reporter, Matthew Allwright out of his way. Matthew then mentioned at the end of the program that it had been an interesting day and the first time he'd been man handled by a Regimental Sergeant Major whom he thought was from the Boys' Brigade.
The 1st Kidderminster BB and GG band led the Kidderminsters parade. Last year's parade was the biggest for over 20 years and this year was no exception.

Mountain Bikers
1st Lindfield took a dozen of their Juniors mountain biking on a nearby course, several of the parents cycled with the lads, and it was followed with a barbecue. How do you know when Boys have enjoyed themselves, because they usually sing and joke about it afterwards, and they were certainly doing that last evening!

Stay-awake-athon
Towards the end of last year, Boys from the 36th Bristol Junior and Company Sections took part in a "Stay-awake-athon", at Bethesda Methodist Church, to raise money for Bethesda's refurbishment.
What is a Stay-awake-athon, I hear you ask - well it's the opposite to a sleep over. At a stay-awake-athon, the Boys try to stay awake all night. We meet at 8pm, Friday night and try to stay awake right through till 8am Saturday morning.
Us officers, never cease to be amazed at how much energy our Boys have, as some of the Officers were flagging at 3am, having a rest on the settee in the "Film Lounge", most of the Boys were still playing football (in the Church - don't tell anyone!), or snooker, or table-tennis. There were also opportunities for quiet pursuits, or eating (toast was available all night). We rounded up the event by sitting down for a good breakfast - followed by the officers sneaking home for a sleep!
We are pleased to be able to pass on £370 to our Church for their refurbishment fund, and would like to thank everyone who sponsored us.

The Gazette was added to the BBUK Website
---
The Gazette, the official BB publication, is available on-line at the BBUK website. http://www.boys-brigade.org.uk To save duplication, the Strathkelvin webpages no longer carries the Gazette on-line. Previous issues of the Gazette will remain on our site for those who have not viewed them and we will now carry a feature called "Gazette Snips", bits and pieces which should be of general interest.
